Lately I've been on a health kick, getting back into the swing of things and started eating fully vegan again. I never cooked with eggs, or dairy but that doesn't mean I was eating entirely healthy or entirely vegan all the time outside of the kitchen. The busier we become the less time we spend in the kitchen dreaming up new recipes or using our favorite cookbooks, and I was definitely in the habit of eating out a lot. Recently I bought a TON of new cookbooks. Most of them are vegan, but even ones that have a few meat dishes in them are primarily vegetarian! Many of these came out last year, or this year except one. Most of my older vegan cookbooks are not in shape to be photographed. Pages dusty with flour, crinkled and rippling with spilled then dried liquids, and I have sort of phased them out. Here are some of our top cookbooks right now!
My New Roots has always been one of my favorite blogs. When I found out she was publishing a book, I pre-ordered it right away. It certainly didn't disappoint. If you are a fan of her blog, the book has so many great recipes and stunning photos. Oh She Glows was another of my favorite blogs. I make the kale/cranberry/pecan salad once a week, at least. It is hands down my favorite salad of all time. The cover is a little lacking (I am a sucker for good photos in a cookbook) but the photos inside are gorgeous. The Sprouted Kitchen was recommended when I was picking up some other vegan cookbooks. This book is not vegan, nor vegetarian, but I would say that 95% of the recipes are. There are a few seafood dishes, and maybe one chicken but other than that, its all super simple, whole food recipes. I was gifted the Kinfolk Table from my life long best friend last christmas. I am a huge fan of their magazine, and I heard the cookbook was just as good. This is also not completely vegetarian but I would say a good 3/4 of the book is. Each chapter if you will is based around a contributor to the magazine with a few of their favorite recipes. The photos are also very similar to the magazine, and I really like this cookbook as well.
When Alicia SIlverstone's book The Kind Diet first came out, I wasn't expecting much, but I thought hey why not. This has entered into the rotation of most used cookbooks. It also happens to contain the recipe for the best ever caesar salad. In fact, I think thats what she calls it, and it definitely lives up to its name. Im not sure if it tastes exactly like the traditional caesar salad but I can tell you it tastes a hundred times better for sure. Green Kitchen Travels is somewhat new to me. I had seen their blog a few times but was not an avid follower. I was missing out. I started following their youtube channel, and everything was so beautifully shot, and the recipes were so delightfully simple, I had to have this cookbook. This book features recipes inspired by their travels all over the world, a lot of middle eastern inspiration which I can appreciate. Plenty More was a book I had seen countless times on other blogs, recommendations, and it had been sitting in my amazon cart since it came out. I finally picked it up, and I have to say this is definitely on the "fancier" side. There are some ingredients you might have to hunt down, but the photos make it look worth the effort. I would use this when you are having a dinner party or feel like spicing it up on the weekend.
