Palo Santo

Regular price $16.00

Palo santo is also known as "holy wood". It is used much like white sage is used in ritual ceremonies to cleanse the air and rid negative energies from your space. It smells similar to its relative, frankincense with a deep, rich, resinous, and sweet aroma. This palo santo was ethically harvested from Ecuador.

Each bag comes with 6 pieces of palo santo. Each stick measures about 4-5 inches long. Each stick will last for many many uses.

Directions

Simply light the tip until it begins to glow red and blow it out. To keep the incense burning let it sit by a window or if you want just a quick cleanse it will go out on its own in about a minute.

Ethical Information

Palo Santo has had some confusing misinformation surrounding it. Palo Santo is NOT endangered. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Bursera graveolens is considered stable and "of least concern". It is also NOT on the United Plant Savers (uPS) "at risk" list. It is often being confused with another species (Bulnesia sarmientoithat is endangered. In order to be sustainably and ethically harvested, Palo Santo needs to live out its life, and naturally fall to the forest floor. It needs to age for 5-8 years before it is usable. Unethical harvesting of this sacred tree involves cutting the tree down and not allowing for this natural process to occur for profit. So should you use palo santo?

Well, we are in fact discontinuing the sale of palo santo. While it is not considered endangered, we must be mindful of how and where it is harvested. While our palo santo is 100% ethically harvested, we no longer want to sell plants that may have a negative effect on the environment in any way. Palo Santo comes from dry tropical forests which are threatened. So...we will be selling through the rest of our inventory as well as continuing to use the scrap pieces in our loose incense. (We hand chop every piece so the byproduct of this is a lot of smaller scrap pieces that we reuse for incense)

Please only buy from ethical or sustainably harvested sellers. Be mindful when choosing plants that will be used in a spiritual nature. You want to feel good about what you are choosing to use in your rituals.
